The Truth About Frameless Glass Shower Doors

There is no doubt that glass shower doors give your bathroom a sophisticated look. They also have the ability to make your bathroom look larger than it actually is, then why are some people choosing to install other options in their showers? Easy, because they have heard some of the myths surrounding these products and they’ve decided to go with a different shower door instead. However, the truth is a lot of the myths that you’re hearing aren’t actually the truth! Keep reading to find out more about glass doors for your shower!

  • Myth 1-Shower doors “explode” when you’re showering: There have been countless amounts of media coverage claiming that glass doors have exploded while someone was showering or that they were unsafe during a hot shower. As with any glass products, especially tempered glass, there is a very small percentage that this will actually happen. Tempered glass, which all shower doors are made out of for safety reasons., is extremely strong and when/if it does break it does so in tiny pieces in order to prevent injuries from occurring.
  • Myth 2- Protective glass coating on the shower doors means it is “maintenance free”: There is really nothing in this world that is truly “maintenance-free,” and the same goes for your shower door. Although a protective coating can make your glass door “low maintenance” cleaning it is still recommended that you wipe the glass down periodically to ensure your doors last.
  • Myth 3- Heavy glass frameless doors leak water: If your shower enclosure is properly installed, there is a minimal chance that it will leak water. Another thing to be on the lookout for is to make sure that your shower head is positioned correctly, away from the seam of your enclosure.
  • Myth 4- Heavy glass enclosures cannot be installed on fiberglass or acrylic: It’s true that it is not recommended for heavy glass doors to be installed on fiberglass or acrylic some doors are designed for these types of units. You just may need to do a little extra research to find the doors that are right for your bathroom.
  • Myth 5- Showerhead position does not matter: This is absolutely false! Making sure your showerhead is in the correct position will enable you to have maximum waterproofing. For instance, if you are installing sliding or rolling shower doors, than the inner panel needs to be position on the same wall that the showerhead is located, however, if you are putting swinging doors or a panel door in your shower than it is recommended that the hinges are on the opposite wall across from the showerhead.
